TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Nvidia is preparing to sell a new artificial intelligence (AI) chip in China that has half the performance of its flagship GPU, the B300 Blackwell. According to a report by TechCrunch on Wednesday, August 21, 2025, the new B30A chip is said to be more powerful than the H20 GPU, which is currently permitted for sale in China.
Unlike the dual-die design of the B300, the B30A will feature a single-die design. However, the chip will still offer similar features to the H20, such as fast data transmission, NVLink support, and high-bandwidth memory.
According to Investopedia, Nvidia is likely to send samples of the new chip to Chinese clients for testing as early as next month. It is also reported that the development of B30A seems to be separate from other chips that Nvidia is reportedly preparing for the Chinese market.
"We evaluate a variety of products for our roadmap, so that we can be prepared to compete to the extent that governments allow. Everything we offer is with the full approval of the applicable authorities and designed solely for beneficial commercial use," Nvidia said.
This news is in line with the steps taken by President Donald Trump's administration, which has recently loosened export rules for high-performance AI chips to China. However, approval for the B30A chip is still uncertain.
Amid increasing geopolitical tensions between Beijing and Washington, triggered by the competition in AI development, critics argue that America should maintain its advantage by limiting the supply of crucial technology to China.
However, Nvidia and some of its competitors argue that handing over a large market like China to rivals such as Huawei is equivalent to losing vital strategic opportunities.
