TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Vietnamese embassy in Jakarta hosted an orchestra concert to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Vietnam. The Vietnam National Academy of Music supported the concert on Sunday evening, March 9, 2025, at Ciputra Artpreneur, Jakarta.
"We welcome all of you to the celebration of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Vietnam," said Vietnamese ambassador to Indonesia, Ta Van Thong, at the event opening.
The concert also welcomed To Lam's visit, the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, who arrived at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Sunday afternoon. To Lam is scheduled to make a state visit to Indonesia on March 9-11, 2025.
Among the guests were Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son, and from Indonesia, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Minister of Investment and Industrial Estate Development Rosan Roeslani, and Chairperson of the Regional Representative Council Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin.
The Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Tran Vuong Thach enlivened the musical performance. Several Vietnamese musicians also contributed to the concert, including singers Dao To Loan, Tran Tuan Phi, and Nguyen Truong Linh.
Furthermore, the concert featured special performances by lithophone player Mai Thanh Son, flutist Le Thu Huong, violinist Bui Cong Duy, and solo pianist Luu Duc Anh.
They presented classical music from Europe to traditional Indonesian and Vietnamese music. Some of the Western songs they played included Johann Sebastian Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 2 for flute in B minor BWV1067; Chopin's Grand Valse Brilliante Op.18 No.1 in E-Flat Major; and Fritz Kreisler's Liebesfreud old Viennese Dance No. 1.
Among the Vietnamese songs performed were The Song of Hope, Echoes of the Nation, and Around Vietnam. The only Indonesian song featured was Rayuan Pulau Kelapa by Ismail Marzuki.
The concert concluded with the phenomenal Johannes Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 5. Thus, the artists performed at least 13 songs in approximately 90 minutes.
