Over 5,000 Foreigners Breach Immigration Law in 2024, Says Minister

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Agus Andrianto, said thousands of foreigners committed administrative violations on immigration throughout 2024.

“Monitoring on foreign nationals shows 5,434 violations,” said Agus during a working meeting with House Commission XIII on Wednesday, February 19.

Aside from administrative breaches, as many as 130 foreigners were subject to immigration criminal law enforcement. 

Agus stated that these cases were revealed through the results of two main supervision mechanisms possessed by the Directorate General of Immigration. These two mechanisms consist of supervision under central control with 1,630 activities and supervision under work unit control with a total of 10,859 activities. "The total of supervision activities throughout Indonesia amounts to 12,489 activities," said Agus.

Law enforcers on immigration also grew in 2024, with 130 foreigners as compared to the previous year with 58 foreigners. "So, there was an increase of 124.13 percent," said Agus Andrianto.

Meanwhile, the number of violations subjected to immigration administrative law saw a surge of 62.16 percent, as 2023 logged 3,351 foreigners violating the law.
