TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director of special economic crime (Dittipideksus) of the Indonesian National Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) Brigadier General Helfi Assegaf said the practice of reducing the Minyakita measurement has been ongoing since early February. According to Helfi, the perpetrators could repackage 400 to 800 boxes into various sizes per day.

"Based on the suspect's confession, this action has been ongoing since early February with a production quantity of 400 to 800 boxes per day," said Helfi during a press conference at the Bareskrim building, South Jakarta, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

In this case, Dittipideksus has named a suspect with the initials AWI. He roled as the branch head and factory manager of PT Aya Rasa Nabati, where the oil was repackaged.

In carrying out his actions, according to Helfi, AWI obtained bulk cooking oil from PT MGS in Bekasi. In the sales chain before repackaging, AWI bought it for Rp18,100 per liter.

Helfi stated that considering the price before repackaging was far above the ceiling price, the suspect then circumvented it by reducing the content measurement. Although the Minyakita packaging indicated 1 liter, upon inspection, it was found to contain only 750 milliliters to 800 milliliters.

The Dittipideksus investigative team from Bareskrim Polri searched the factory where AWI carried out the fraudulent practice on Sunday, March 9, 2025. During the search, the police seized 10,560 liters of Minyakita repackaged in various sizes. "The oil was ready to be distributed, but the contents did not match the packaging," said Helfi.

The police seized the packaging machinery in addition to the products. Helfi mentioned that the equipment had been set to dispense 750 milliliters per package. "The perpetrator manually adjusted it so that less than a liter was dispensed," he said.

For his actions, the police are charging the suspect under Article 62 of Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, in conjunction with Articles 102 and 142 of Law Number 18 of 2012 concerning Food. The suspect faces a maximum imprisonment of five years and a fine of up to Rp2 billion.

Earlier, the public had complained about Minyakita's reduced measurement. In various videos circulated on social media, several people measured the contents of the subsidized cooking oil packaging.
