TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The East Jakarta Metro Police have questioned 18 witnesses regarding the case of Kenzha Ezra Walewangko, a student from the Indonesian Christian University (UKI), who was found dead with blood covering his body on campus.

Kenzha was discovered on the evening of Tuesday, March 4, 2025, with facial and nasal bleeding. Authorities are investigating the possibility of a mob attack.

"Currently, the police have interrogated 18 witnesses," said East Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner Nicolas Ary Lilipaly during a press conference at the UKI Rectorate on Friday, March 7, 2025.

Of the 18 witnesses, 13 were students. "We have interviewed 13 students and five people from UKI. One of them was the individual who reported the incident, a campus official, and the remaining four were security personnel on duty at the time," Nicolas explained.

The police have not yet shared details regarding the investigation’s progress or the results of their inquiries. "Scientific investigations require significant time and precision. We do not want to rush to conclusions or make premature statements to the public. We ask for patience, as we cannot make unfounded assumptions," he said.

UKI Rector Dhaniswara K. Harjono echoed this sentiment, stating that the campus is taking a similar approach. "We, at UKI, have remained mostly silent because we want to await the results of the police investigation. That is the most important thing. We will focus on the legal aspects once the findings are clear," he said.

Earlier, the Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metro Police, Ade Ary Syam Indradi, shared the timeline of Kenzha’s death based on witness statements. According to Ade, the incident appears to have begun with an alcohol-related gathering.

"According to witness 4, named EFW, on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, around 4:30 PM, he consumed arak Bali (Balinese liquor) with three of his friends, A and H," Ade stated in a written release on Friday, March 7, 2025.

Then, around 17.00 PM, witness EFW wanted to buy Balinese liquor again. EFW met the victim at the UKI campus exit. The victim then asked EFW where he was going.

"Then the witness replied, 'want to buy Balinese liquor.' Then the witness and the victim went together on foot to buy the drink at a liquor store on Sutoyo, Cawang," said Ade Ary.

After buying the drink, the witness and the victim drank together with A, H, K, J, S, and R in the campus library garden. Then, around 18.00 PM, the victim got into a verbal altercation. However, the witness said he did not know the cause.

"After that, the atmosphere calmed down, and the victim and his friends drank together again," said Ade Ary.

Then, about 1.5 hours later, precisely around 19.30 WIB, the victim got into another verbal altercation. This incident was then mediated by the campus security, and the victim was escorted by EFW toward the campus exit.

Once they reached the exit, EFW left the victim, thinking he would go to get his motorcycle for home. However, when EFW returned to the pavilion, it turned out the victim did not head towards his motorcycle.

"But towards the fence while shouting and tearing the fence, until finally the victim fell along with the fence towards the front," said Ade Ary.

The victim was then lifted by an unknown person to witness 4 EFW. At that time, the victim's face and nose were bleeding. "Then he was taken to the ER at UKI Hospital, East Jakarta."
