TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heavy rain in the Jabodetabek (Greater Jakarta) area over the past three days has caused flooding in several vulnerable areas. According to police monitoring, the most severely affected area by flooding at the moment is Babelan, Bekasi Regency, West Java.
The Head of the Indonesian National Police's Water and Air Police Corps (Korps Kepolisian Perairan dan Udara) Baharkam Polri, Inspector General Yassin Kosasih, stated that the Babelan area is one of the main focuses in the post-flooding rescue operation. Yassin said, "There is still a shortage of personnel there, while many houses are still submerged," in his official statement quoted on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
Yassin mentioned that the police had been monitoring the flooding using helicopters to observe the situation in Bekasi, Jakarta, Tangerang, and Bogor. He also deployed around 200 personnel to evacuate residents at eight points, such as in Jatirasa Housing, Jatiasih, Pondok Gede Permai, and Kebon Pala Bekasi.
"We empathize with the flood disaster in Jabodetabek, especially during this holy month of Ramadan. We will deploy more personnel and equipment," said Yassin.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Public Information Bureau of the Indonesian National Police's Public Relations Division Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko stated that the Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo is paying special attention to this disaster. "The Chief of Police has instructed all units to go directly to the field," said Trunoyudo.
As for the next steps, Trunoyudo mentioned that the police will collaborate with the Ministry of Social Affairs and related institutions to assist in the evacuation process in flooded areas. "The police ensure that they will continue to provide assistance to the community until the situation returns to normal," he said.
