TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A case of mistaken identity by the police occurred in Grobogan Regency, Central Java, on Monday, March 3, 2025, when Inspector IR mistakenly arrested a snail hunter, Kusyanto, on suspicion of stealing a water pump machine in Suru Village, Geyer District.
Kusyanto was taking a break near his snail-hunting site when he was suddenly apprehended and taken to a resident’s house for questioning. A video of his interrogation later went viral on social media.
Following the incident, Kusyanto was brought to the Geyer Police Sector Headquarters but was later released due to a lack of evidence.
Grobogan Police Chief Commissioner Ike Yulianto stated that Inspector IR initially acted on a resident’s report.
"The officer was called by a resident who suspected a theft case and handed over the individual," Ike explained on Monday, March 10, 2025.
He noted that theft of irrigation equipment and vehicle parts is common in the area.
Currently, the officer responsible for the wrongful arrest and alleged intimidation of Kusyanto is under investigation.
"The officer has been suspended pending the completion of our investigation," Ike confirmed.
