TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Politeknik Tempo and Dharma Bhakti Astra Foundation, held an online workshop for MSMEs under Astra's guidance to optimize product sales through social media.
A. Daniel Herbianto, the Head of Mentorship and Supporting Development Department at Astra Foundation - Dharma Bhakti Astra Foundation, stated that many MSME entrepreneurs are unable to use social media as a sales channel. "Using social media for actual sales is challenging, often ending up only as branding," said Daniel, in a written statement on Monday, September 22, 2025.
This workshop featured two experienced speakers in social media sales. One of them, Rahmi Utami, an International Marketing Management lecturer, shared strategies for MSME entrepreneurs to have their sales content appear on the "For You Page" (FYP) of TikTok users.
However, Rahmi cautioned that there is no guarantee that content will appear on the FYP due to the continuously evolving social media algorithm. Nevertheless, Rahmi explained that entrepreneurs have a much greater opportunity to make their content go viral if they are willing to apply strategies and consistently upload material.
Moreover, Rahmi explained that social media accounts can generate income through endorsement or affiliate marketing. The endorsement program requires individuals to promote a brand's product to earn money.
This workshop also featured Nabila Ainiyyah, a fifth-semester student in the International Marketing Management program at Politeknik Tempo. In the workshop, Nabila shared her experience as a business owner utilizing the live feature on TikTok.
Nabila acknowledged that she managed to earn three digits worth of income after graduating from high school by selling live on TikTok. "Even though the viewers are few, we must remain enthusiastic so that they want to ask questions," said Nabila.
To increase viewership, Nabila suggested that entrepreneurs who want to utilize the live feature should be able to explain the products they are selling, offer promotions, or greet TikTok users who are watching.
Riris Wardaya, one of the MSME entrepreneurs who attended this workshop, also shared her experience using TikTok. She said that she gained thousands of viewers and likes on TikTok after uploading a photo of food with a recipe. "Even though I am not very active in creating content, I use the FYP hashtag to make the content go viral," she said.
Following this workshop, Rachma Tri Widuri, the Deputy Director of Politeknik Tempo for Non-Academic and Cooperation Affairs, expressed gratitude to the Astra Foundation - Dharma Bhakti Astra Foundation for collaborating to hold this MSME training. "We must show our appreciation to MSME, because MSME is the backbone of Indonesia's economy. The main saviors in the current economic conditions are MSMEs," Rachma said.
At the end of the workshop, Politeknik Tempo extended its appreciation to five participants who answered a quiz correctly. The appreciation came in the form of a 50 percent tuition fee reduction scholarship at Politeknik Tempo for the academic years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027.
Through this activity, Politeknik Tempo and Astra Foundation - Dharma Bhakti Astra Foundation hope that MSME entrepreneurs can continue to grow and innovate, and strategically utilize social media to drive their business growth.
Politeknik Tempo is a vocational campus founded by Tempo Education House Foundation, with a 40 percent theoretical and 60 percent practical lecture system. Registration for the 2025-2026 academic year at Politeknik Tempo is open until the end of September.
