TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vatican announced that Pope Francis has shown significant signs of recovery in his treatment for double pneumonia at Gemelli Hospital in Rome on Monday, March 10, 2025. Despite the positive progress, he will continue to be hospitalized for several more days.
"The improvements recorded in previous days have been further consolidated, as confirmed by both blood tests and clinical findings, as well as by the Pope’s good response to pharmacological therapy," according to a Vatican official statement as reported by Anadolu.
Based on this positive development, the medical team has decided to "lift the prognosis". However, considering the "complexity of the Pope's clinical picture," he will continue to undergo inpatient treatment for some time.
Pope Francis was elected as the leader of the Catholic Church at the age of 76 on March 13, 2013, replacing Pope Benedict XVI.
The now 88-year-old Pope has been hospitalized at Gemelli Hospital since February 14. The latest report mentioned that the Argentine pope had a "quiet night" and remains under medical observation.
This is not the first time Pope Francis has faced health challenges. Throughout his life, he has overcome various medical problems, including the partial removal of his lungs at the age of 21 due to life-threatening pneumonia.
In 2022, he also suffered from knee problems that required him to use a cane or wheelchair. Respiratory infections occurred one year later in March 2023, followed by hernia surgery a few months later. And recently, Pope Francis suffered a minor injury to his right arm due to a fall.
