TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto claims that the suffering of the people in Gaza, Palestine, has been alleviated. He is optimistic that peace is achievable in Gaza as he signs the Board of Peace Charter initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Trump's Board of Peace was launched during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, Switzerland.
During this occasion, Prabowo claimed that there has been a positive development in Gaza, while expressing Indonesia's readiness to actively participate in the forum as part of its commitment to humanity and world peace.
"It is clear that the suffering of the people of Gaza has been reduced, alleviated. Humanitarian aid has been entering the enclave on a massive scale. Indonesia is ready to participate," Prabowo told media crew in Davos on Thursday, January 22, 2026, as quoted from the official statement of the Presidential Secretariat.
Prabowo calls Indonesia's involvement in the Board of Peace a historic moment and an opportunity to push for peace efforts, especially for the Palestinian people.
"This is truly an opportunity to achieve peace in Gaza," said Prabowo.
Regarding Indonesia's membership in the Board of Peace, Prabowo says the forum is open to countries aiming for peace and humanity. "Those who seek peace and assist the people of Gaza, the people of Palestine," he said.
The Board of Peace is a Trump-backed initiative that seeks to oversee the development in Gaza post-Israeli onslaught.
Prabowo attended the Board of Peace's launch along with representatives from 21 other countries, which take turns to sign the council's charter.
Trump inaugurated the event with a special address. "This is a very anticipated and long-planned day," said Trump in a White House social media broadcast on Thursday.
Trump said the attending heads of state were the first group to join the Board of Peace. "Each and every one of you, we are truly honored by your presence today. Leaders of countries and most cases, very popular leaders," said the Republican Party politician.
Trump discussed various topics during his address, including what he considered his achievements as the U.S. president. He claimed to have ended eight wars since taking office in January last year and ensured the Board of Peace will cooperate with various parties, including the United Nations.
Following the address, Trump signed the Board of Peace charter, followed by other heads of state, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
