TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto is confident that the Indonesian economy will grow beyond expectations, a remark he shared while addressing the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
Prabowo claims that Indonesia is now a "land of peace and stability" with economic growth that stands to be "significantly surprising to many" countries.
According to Prabowo, Indonesia has seen consistent economic growth above 5 percent in recent years, with the annual inflation rate maintained at around 2 percent.
In this regard, Prabowo says Indonesia offers promising economic prospects and opportunities. "Indonesia now is more and more the land of opportunity," says the Chair of the Gerindra Party, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's social media.
During his address, Prabowo also discusses the establishment of the sovereign wealth fund Danantara, which he deems ready to become a partner for those hoping to invest in Indonesia. "With Danantara, Indonesia is now able to be your partner. We will co-invest and grow with you," he says.
Danantara, Prabowo adds, operates with "strong oversight and institutional responsibility," and is open to hiring capable foreign executives to achieve global standards.
The president says Indonesia aims to recruit the world's best talents. "This is, in fact, how we run Indonesia now," Prabowo says.
Danantara currently manages 1,044 state-owned enterprises (SOEs), which will be cut down to 300 companies at most. "We will rationalize, we will get rid of inefficiency," claims Prabowo.
According to Prabowo, Danantara is an agency aimed at financing "industries of the future," adding that he's also committed to running large-scale industrialization in the country.
To achieve this goal, Prabowo says Indonesia is open to both domestic and foreign investments. "Indonesia today offers sustainable growth with stability," the former defense minister says.
Prabowo's WEF speech lasted for about 40 minutes. In his special address, Prabowo shared the stage with the President and Chief Executive Officer of WEF, Børge Brende.
At this year's WEF forum, world leaders and other key figures also delivered special addresses, including French President Emmanuel Macron, U.S. President Donald J. Trump, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Argentine President Javier Milei.
