TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) at the Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday, April 28, 2025.
As observed by Tempo, Prabowo Subianto welcomed several FKI members in the meeting room at the Merdeka Palace around 11:00 AM WIB.
Prabowo was accompanied by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Minister of Investment and State-Owned Enterprises Rosan Roeslani, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, and State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi. They were all dressed in batik shirts.
Prabowo met with high-ranking officials from major South Korean companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK, Hyundai Motor Group, Lotte, POSCO, Hanwha, HD Hyundai, and KB Financial Group. Prabowo went around the blue-decorated oval table and greeted several officials. They then held a closed-door meeting, which had not concluded at the time of this report.
Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media at the Presidential Secretariat Yusuf Permana stated that the meeting aimed to strengthen economic relations. Additionally, the meeting was conducted to expand and enhance the potential for investment cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea in various strategic sectors.
Prior to this, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto had met with FKI CEO and Vice Chairman Kim Chang-beom to discuss strengthening global supply chain cooperation.
During the meeting at the Ministry of Economic Affairs office, Vice Chairman Kim presented the FKI business mission plan that would be carried out in April 2025 and requested the support of the Indonesian Government for the implementation of the activity.
"This business mission aims to enhance bilateral business and economic cooperation, particularly in new investment opportunities, including the expansion of South Korean investment in Indonesia," Vice Chairman Kim stated in an official release in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
The business mission will be attended by several major South Korean companies that have already invested or intend to develop their investments in Indonesia, such as Lotte Group, Hyundai Motor Company, LG Group, SK Group, Posco Holdings, CJ, EcoPro, Doosan Enerbility, and LX International.
In response, Airlangga appreciated and supported the plan and encouraged an increase in the realization of Korean company investment projects in Indonesia.
According to him, building a close partnership with a country that has advanced experience and technology is a strategic step to enhance the competitiveness of the national industry, accelerate technology transfer, and open up broader market access.
"Indonesia is very open to Korean companies to invest and develop their businesses," Airlangga said, as quoted from Antara.
Airlangga also conveyed that one of the main sectors for cooperation is related to critical minerals, where the investments of Posco and Lotte in Indonesia are quite significant and still have the potential for further development.
In this regard, South Korea agreed to provide investment support aligned with Indonesia's priority programs such as the electric vehicle and battery supply chain, facilitating industrial progress, technology transfer, job creation, and supporting Indonesia's food resilience program.
