TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto meets with American philanthropist and Microsoft founder Bill Gates at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
President Prabowo and Bill Gates are holding a meeting at the Merdeka Palace to discuss several sustainable development initiatives.
"Especially on the issue of global health, nutrition, financial inclusion, and public digital infrastructure," said Deputy of Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat Yusuf Permana, quoted from the official statement on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
Prior to this, President Prabowo Subianto stated that Bill Gates is coming to support the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program. He mentioned that the request for the visit had been made since November.
"One of the goals is to express support and appreciation for the nutritious meal program that we are running," said Prabowo while addressing the Full Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, on Monday, May 5, 2025.
The former Defense Minister mentioned that Bill Gates plans to provide assistance for the MBG program. However, Prabowo has not yet known the form of that assistance.
"However, I emphasize that whether there is assistance or not, whether there is appreciation or not, this program is an investment for the children of the nation," he said.
Prior to visiting Indonesia, 69-year-old Bill Gates visited Singapore to attend the Philanthropy Asia Summit on May 5 and 6, 2025. There, he met with several top officials of the country and the researchers of the Breakthrough Energy, an organization focused on climate change that he funds.
Bill Gates will open a branch office for his Gates Foundation in Singapore. This will be their 12th office and the first in Southeast Asia. The announcement was made by Bill Gates, the billionaire founder of Microsoft, at the Philanthropy Asia Summit 2025 in Singapore on Monday, May 5, 2025. "To facilitate access to knowledge and collaborate with the philanthropic community here," said Bill Gates.
