TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto delivered a speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, January 22, 2026. Speaking before representatives from numerous nations and international corporations, Prabowo asserted that Indonesia has never defaulted on its financial obligations.
Prabowo claimed that Indonesia has maintained its credibility over the decades. "Credibility once lost is very expensive to regain. Indonesia, in our history, has never once defaulted on the payments of our debt," he stated, delivering his speech in English from the WEF podium.
Prabowo noted that each ruling administration in Indonesia consistently honors the debts incurred by its predecessors. "Succeeding regimes always pay the debts of the preceding regime," said Prabowo, who assumed office from former President Joko Widodo in October 2024.
The Gerindra Party Chair asserted that Indonesia currently stands as a peaceful and stable nation. Under these conditions, he remarked, Indonesia possesses promising economic prospects and is capable of offering a wealth of opportunities.
Prabowo highlighted that Indonesia's economic growth has consistently remained above 5 percent in recent years. He further stated that annual inflation is being successfully managed at approximately 2 percent.
Prabowo expressed firm confidence that the Indonesian economy will expand even more significantly in the coming years. "I am convinced that our economic growth will be significantly surprising to many in the world," he declared.
Prabowo also utilized his WEF address to discuss the Danantara Investment Management Agency. He explained that Danantara was established, in part, to serve as a strategic partner for anyone seeking to invest in Indonesia.
The former defense minister affirmed that Indonesia remains steadfastly open to both foreign and domestic investment. "Indonesia today offers sustainable growth with stability," Prabowo said.
Prabowo's address at the WEF lasted approximately 40 minutes. During his special session, Prabowo shared the stage with the President and Chief Executive Officer of the WEF, Borge Brende.
Throughout this year's WEF forum, various world leaders and global figures also delivered special remarks. Alongside Prabowo, the WEF stage hosted heads of state and officials, including French President Emmanuel Macron, U.S. President Donald J. Trump, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Argentine President Javier Milei.
