TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto made a surprise inspection of the Free Nutritious Meal program at elementary schools and kindergartens in East Jakarta on Monday, December 3, 2025. "This morning, the President wanted to personally check the implementation of the free nutritious meal program at schools," said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra in a written statement to journalists on Monday, February 3, 2025.
Teddy said President Prabowo visited Elementary School 05 Jati, Kindergarten 02, and the public kitchen in Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta. Prabowo's surprise visit was previously announced by the Head of Presidential Communications, Hasan Nasbi, in early January.
He said President Prabowo would inspect the implementation of the free nutritious meal program. "There will be no prior notice to make it more natural," said Hasan Nasbi when contacted on Monday, January 6, 2025.
Previously, the President's Special Envoy for Climate and Energy and Prabowo's younger brother, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, stated that President Prabowo had initiated the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program in 2006.
"The Free Nutritious Meal program, MBG, is President Prabowo's promise. It was President Prabowo's idea 18 years ago. The idea was born in 2006," said Hashim in a video recording released by President Prabowo Subianto's media team in Jakarta on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
This statement by Hashim was made during the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in South Jakarta on January 7.
Prabowo's brother said the president is committed to realizing the dreams of Indonesian children through the nutritional sufficiency consumed by the future generation. Prabowo also disclosed this during the 2014 general election campaign.
After being inaugurated as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia on October 20, 2024, Prabowo began implementing the MBG program. Since its simultaneous launch on January 6, 2025, this program has reached 31 provinces in the country.
