Prabowo Meets PM Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto held a meeting with United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Prabowo visited the Labour Party leader at the Prime Minister's Office at 10 Downing Street, London, during his official stay.

Arriving in a black vehicle adorned with the Indonesian flag, President Prabowo was welcomed by PM Starmer at the entrance of the iconic residence. The two leaders spoke briefly at the doorstep before entering the building for a private, one-on-one meeting.

Starmer opened the session by welcoming Prabowo back to Downing Street. "It's a real pleasure to have you back for your second visit," Starmer said, as reported by the Presidential Secretariat’s social media channels.

According to Starmer, the two had discussed various strategic collaborations during Prabowo's previous visit in November 2024. Since then, Starmer noted, the relationship between Indonesia and the UK has progressed rapidly.

Starmer highlighted bilateral cooperation in the maritime sector. "Thank you also for the maritimeagreement that we signed, albeit virtually at the G20, and that is measured in very many jobs which really matter to the United Kingdom," he said.

Starmer mentioned that he and Prabowo had many topics to discuss, including education, a subject Prabowo had spoken about passionately during his previous visit.

During the meeting, Prabowo expressed his appreciation for Starmer’s reception and noted that he had already held key meetings regarding the maritime economy and education.

Prabowo stated that he had met with the CEO of the British defense firm Babcock upon his arrival in the country. "I met with the Babcock CEO. We are very pleased to go ahead with this maritime partnership. I think it will be a very, very important strategic for Indonesia. It will be, I think, a vital part of our maritime economic development," said the Gerindra Party Chairman.

Prabowo also planned to hold discussions with various UK stakeholders across several other fields. "Today, I will have another discussion with business leaders from the UK and also with leaders from the Russell Group," the President added.

Following their private talks, President Prabowo and PM Starmer continued their agenda at 10 Downing Street with a meeting attended by their respective delegations. This bilateral session focused on the implementation of various cooperation agreements between Indonesia and the United Kingdom.
