TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to exchange views on global strategic developments, according to Indonesia's Cabinet Secretariat of Indonesia.
The meeting took place at Prabowo's private residence in Kertanegara, Jakarta, on Monday, July 6, after the president saw off Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon his arrival at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base.
"The meeting between two longtime friends was an important opportunity to reconnect and reminisce. On the occasion, the two leaders also exchanged views on various global strategic developments," the Cabinet Secretariat said in a statement.
According to the Secretariat, the meeting reflects the Indonesian government's efforts to maintain engagement with international leaders and influential global figures as part of its broader diplomatic outreach and to strengthen Indonesia's position and competitiveness on the global stage.
Blair served as the United Kingdom's prime minister from 1997 to 2007.
Earlier on Monday, Prabowo held talks with Lawrence Wong. The two leaders discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues, including security and developments in the Strait of Malacca.
The meeting also saw the signing of 26 cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding between Indonesia and Singapore.
Later that day, Prabowo welcomed Modi to Jakarta. The Indian prime minister is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prabowo before continuing his visit to both Jakarta and Yogyakarta.
This marks Blair's latest meeting with Prabowo, who has sought to deepen Indonesia's diplomatic engagement with foreign leaders and international figures since taking office.
