TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono reported progress on the Red and White Fishermen’s Village development to President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
The project is part of Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen coastal economies and improve the welfare of fishing communities.
Trenggono said the development is currently in its first phase and has reached 50 percent completion.
“The progress has reached 50 percent of the first phase and hopefully will be completed soon in February,” Trenggono said after meeting President Prabowo.
In addition to the fishermen’s village program, Trenggono discussed other maritime initiatives with the President, including the construction of shrimp farming facilities.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is currently building a 2,150-hectare shrimp pond complex worth Rp7.2 trillion in Waingapu, East Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.
Prabowo also met with Budiman Sudjatmiko, head of the National Team for the Acceleration of Poverty Reduction (BP Taskin). Budiman said the President instructed the team to integrate strategic government programs, including the Red and White Fishermen’s Village initiative.
According to Budiman, Prabowo wants the fishermen’s village program to complement other flagship initiatives, such as the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program and housing development.
“And other programs so that they can interact with each other as one ecosystem,” said Budiman, a former member of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP).
Strengthening the fishermen’s village ecosystem was one of the key topics discussed during the meeting. The President also invited Dony Oskaria, head of the state-owned enterprises (SOEs) supervisory body, to discuss the program.
Dony said the fishermen’s village will be integrated into an ecosystem managed by state-owned company PT Agrinas Jaladri Nusantara (Persero).
“This is about how we optimize our marine potential, so Jaladri will focus on developing productivity in the fisheries industry,” Dony said after the meeting.
He added that the program goes beyond physical infrastructure development and includes business components, such as securing off-takers for fisheries products to ensure sustainable market access.
