Prabowo's Message to Rectors: Uphold Academic Integrity, Advance Research

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has called on universities to uphold academic integrity and emphasize the importance of fostering an anti-corruption culture among future generations.  

This message was conveyed by Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto after attending a gathering and panel discussion with Prabowo, university rectors, and leaders of state and private institutions at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, March 13, 2025.  

“The anti-corruption culture must always be instilled in Indonesia’s future generations,” Brian stated at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on the same day.

Besides that, Brian stated that the Head of State urged universities to produce outstanding products to achieve national self-reliance in various sectors, from food self-sufficiency to mineral downstreaming.

Prabowo also encouraged rectors and deans to continuously improve the quality of teaching, research, and technological development.

"The President requested us to provide the best, the best human resources from universities, groundbreaking technological research to produce technology products for the very large Indonesian market, for the economic and industrial revival in Indonesia," he said.

Brian stated that the President emphasized Indonesia's great potential to become a developed country. However, the mastery of science and technology is the main key to achieve this.

"Mr. President also stated that only a nation that masters science and technology will prosper," he said.

Furthermore, according to Brian, the President expressed his optimism about Danantara as a driving force for strategic industries in Indonesia. In supporting this, the role of universities is considered essential as they can become the backbone of research and innovation.

"In this case, the role of universities will become the backbone of research, innovation, and the preparation of human resources to fill the movements or industrial programs that will move quickly in the future," Brian continued.

According to Brian, in the panel discussion with President Prabowo, the rectors were also given the opportunity to express their views.

Minister also hopes that this meeting can strengthen the synergy between the government and universities in building an Advanced Indonesia supported by research, innovation, and qualified human resources.

"We certainly appreciate and thank the President for inviting all fellow Rectors, both from State and Private Higher Education Institutions, so that this way of thinking becomes uniform. Certainly, we all will be enthusiastic to support the President's programs," said Brian.
