TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto will announce the value-added tax (VAT) hike to 12 percent today, Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at the Ministry of Finance office, as conveyed by the House of Representatives’ Commission XI chief Misbakhun.
"I received the information from the Minister of State Secretary," said Misbakhun on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
According to Misbakhun, Prabowo will also announce the incentive figures that the government will provide to anticipate the impact of the VAT hike on the country’s economy today.
"I believe in the president’s wisdom while announcing the 12 percent value-added tax. I believe it will take the sides of the people, especially the poor, the middle class, and the lower class,” Misbakhun continued.
Based on Tempo's monitoring, Prabowo arrived at the ministry office at around 3:50 p.m. local time. He arrived with a group of ministers on a white Garuda car produced by Pindad with the RI-1 plate, one of whom was Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.
Prabowo then went straight to one of the rooms in the Ministry of Finance Office for an internal meeting that went on until 4:25 p.m. However, it was reported that Prabowo would later hold a press conference to announce the 12 percent VAT.
