TEMPO.COJakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government will build dikes to anticipate the potential of tidal flooding. The construction is planned to start after Eid al-Fitr in 1446 Hijriah or Lebaran 2025.

"Hopefully, it will be a preventive step for tidal floods in several points that always occur," said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung after the Plenary Session of the Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) at the City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

The PDIP politician conveyed that some time earlier, they had been warned about the potential occurrence of tidal flooding on March 28-29, 2025.

The flood is expected to impact several areas in North Jakarta, including Muara Angke, Muara Baru, RE Martadinata Road, Cilincing, and Marunda. Governor Pramono has directed all relevant authorities to reactivate the flood control pumps.

"I have instructed that the pumps be prepared in advance to help mitigate the impact. After Lebaran, we will begin constructing dikes in several locations," he stated.

Earlier, Maruli Sijabat, Executive Secretary of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), explained that the potential tidal flooding is linked to the high tide and rising sea levels in March.

The Jakarta Provincial Government including the Jakarta BPBD has informed residents in the northern coastal areas of Jakarta while preparing other anticipatory measures, including evacuation facilities and shelter locations.

"If evacuation is needed, we will prepare facilities for evacuation using boats. We also maximize the existing facilities," said Maruli at the City Hall, Jakarta, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, as quoted by Antara.

The fulfillment of basic needs for residents at evacuation locations will also be prepared. Furthermore, Pramono said that the weather modification efforts that have been carried out in recent days are going well. This was conveyed by The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG)

The BMKG claims that rainfall in Jakarta and its surrounding areas will decrease after the weather modification operation for the past six days.

The Deputy of Weather Modification at BMKG, Tri Handoko Seto, said the operation aimed at mitigating the impact of extreme hydrometeorological disasters during the peak of the rainy season has successfully reduced rainfall significantly.

"The accumulation result of the decrease in rainfall reaches 50-60 percent with the estimated precipitation in the following days remaining low," said Tri in a written statement on Monday, March 10, 2025.
