TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Qatar on Saturday announced that it will host an emergency Arab-Islamic summit on Monday, September 15, 2025, to discuss Israel’s recent attack on Doha, Arab News reported.

Among the leaders expected to attend are Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is also scheduled to be in Doha, though his participation in the summit has yet to be confirmed.

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari told Qatar News Agency that Arab and Islamic foreign ministers will convene on Sunday, September 14, to draft a joint statement ahead of the leaders’ meeting the following day.

Al Ansari stressed that the summit comes at a critical moment, reflecting Arab and Islamic solidarity with Qatar in the face of what he described as Israel’s “cowardly aggression” targeting the residences of several Hamas leaders in Doha.

He added that the meeting also underscores the collective rejection of what he called Israel’s “state terrorism.”

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan arrived in Doha on Saturday for the preparatory meetings, according to the Saudi Press Agency. Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan attended the ministerial-level session on Sunday, diplomatic sources in Ankara confirmed.

The announcement follows Israel’s unprecedented airstrike on Doha last Tuesday, which targeted a building where Hamas officials were meeting to discuss the latest ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States.

The attack killed five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer, while a key Hamas negotiator narrowly survived.

The strike sparked swift condemnation from Qatar and drew criticism from countries across the international community.

Qatar, host to the largest U.S. military base in the region, has been playing a key mediation role in the Gaza conflict alongside the United States and Egypt. Analysts say the upcoming summit is intended to send a strong signal to Israel.

“The strike is seen across the Gulf as an unprecedented violation of sovereignty and an attack on diplomacy itself,” said Andreas Krieg of King’s College London, as quoted by The Times of Israel. The summit, he added, is meant to show that “such aggression cannot be normalized.”

The goal is to draw clear red lines and end the sense in Israel that it can act with impunity,” Krieg said. “Expect a sharper stance on Palestine and a harder edge on Israeli actions.”
