TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast that most parts of West Java will experience low-category rainfall by the end of June 2026. However, some areas remain at risk of moderate to heavy rain over three consecutive days earlier this week.
West Java Rainfall Forecast
From June 21-30, the BMKG Climatology Station in West Java predicts that around 89 percent of the province will receive low-category rainfall, estimated at 0-50 millimeters per 10 days. Meanwhile, around 11 percent of the region has the potential to experience moderate rainfall of 50-75 millimeters.
Areas with the potential for moderate rainfall include Bogor City, most parts of Bogor Regency, North Sukabumi, South Tasikmalaya, parts of Garut, and Pangandaran. The longest dry period was recorded in Karang Kendal, Cirebon Regency, which experienced 25 consecutive rainless days.
BMKG said the current global climate analysis indicates that the El Niño phenomenon could reduce rainfall in several parts of Indonesia, including West Java.
However, BMKG West Java Climatology Station forecaster Alita Nuraeni said several atmospheric conditions are still supporting increased moisture supply and local convective cloud growth in some areas over the next week.
Warm sea surface temperatures in several Indonesian waters are contributing to water vapor availability for cloud formation, while atmospheric instability levels vary from light to strong.
“Although overall rainfall in West Java is tending to decrease, the potential for light to moderate rainfall can still occur locally, especially in the afternoon to evening in some areas of West Java,” Alita said in a statement on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
