TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government's decision to grant rehabilitation to former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Angkutan Sungai, Danau, dan Penyeberangan (ASDP) Indonesia Ferry, Ira Puspadewi, and two of her subordinates has triggered a legal controversy. Not only is the move considered as inappropriate, but the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), has yet to complete its investigation.
The KPK still holds one more suspect whose case file has not been transferred to court. He is Adjie, the owner of Jembatan Nusantara. Investigators allege that Adjie benefited from Ira's policy to acquire Jembatan Nusantara.
Former KPK investigator Muhammad Praswad Nugraha said the case should not stop there. According to him, there are other parties who must be held accountable for a corruption scheme that allegedly caused around Rp1.25 trillion (about US$75.3 million) in state losses. "This case should still go a long way," Praswad said.
Praswad warned that granting rehabilitation to Ira could erode investigators' morale. With the legal process still underway, President Prabowo Subianto cut it short by issuing the rehabilitation order. "The KPK now risks losing legitimacy to continue this case," he said.
