Revealed: Why Livvy Dunne's $1.5m cash bid to buy iconic New York City apartment was rejected

More details have been revealed about exactly why social media sensation Livvy Dunne was blocked from buying an iconic apartment in New York City.

The former LSU gymnast, 22, has already built up a sizeable net worth and she recently tried to spend big on a three-bedroom co-op that was once owned by baseball icon Babe Ruth.

Incredibly, though, her $1.59m cash offer was rejected by the building's management, and the New York Post have now dug a little deeper into the reasons for her shock 'no'.

It has been reported that current residents of the Upper West Side property were unhappy because she had overshared about the potential purchase to her 5.4million Instagram followers.

'She messed up,' one neighbor told the outlet, explaining that she was too visible on social media. 'The board got p*ssed because she put it on her Instagram.'

Furthermore, the same resident revealed they saw Dunne and her MLB boyfriend Paul Skenes viewing the apartment months earlier.

The TikTok sensation says she was on the verge of purchasing the lavish $1.6m co-op in cash

'I have to admit, when I saw her from behind I didn't think she was an adult,' they said, before adding: 'I thought she was a little boy. She's so little, like a child.'

A devastated Dunne took to social media - ironically - in the aftermath of her rejection to claim that she was 'so upset' and had 'no clue' why she was turned down.

'So a few months ago, I decided I was going to make my first real estate purchase, which is so exciting and I was gonna get an apartment in New York City,' Dunne, who is said to be worth a staggering $6million, explained.

'But the gag was... it was Babe Ruth's apartment.'

New York Yankees icon Ruth, who died back in 1948 at the age of 53, lived in the apartment with his second wife, Claire Merritt Ruth, and their adopted daughter Julia Ruth Stevens, from 1920-40.

The baseball legend's lavish former home is priced just under $1.6million - and Dunne says she had agreed to pay for it in cash.

The ex-LSU gymnastics star told people about her exciting plans and even hired an interior designer because she 'didn't want to bring college furniture to Babe Ruth's apartment'.

'That would be criminal,' she admitted.

The three-bed apartment was going to be hers until a co-op board voted against her buying it

Dunne would have spent time there with her own baseball superstar, Pirates' Paul Skenes

However, just as she appeared to have landed the historic space, Dunne and boyfriend Paul Skenes were dealt a major blow.

'The week that I'm supposed to get my keys to my brand new apartment, I get a call... the co-op board denied me,' she recalled. 'So pretty much the people in the building voted to not have me live there. Which is fine.

'Honestly, it wasn't financial. For all I know, they could've been Alabama fans and I went to LSU. Like, I have no clue.

'Maybe they didn't want a public figure living there, but I was literally supposed to get the keys, and that week they denied me.

'It was just iconic, it was so cool that it was Babe Ruth's apartment. But long story short, don't try to live in a co-op. You might get denied and you won't get Babe Ruth's apartment.'

Ruth's former home, located at 345 W.88th St. in New York City, went back on the market earlier this year.

The Yankees hero, also known as 'the Great Bambino, is the franchise's most famous player after leading the eventually Bronx-based team to four World Series titles and seven American League pennants between 1920 and 1934.

He is still considered by many as the greatest baseball player of all time after hitting 714 career home runs - which was a record up until 1974.

Dunne, who retired from gymnastics after leaving LSU earlier this year, has built up a sizeable net worth at the age of just 22 due to her social-media fame, brand partnerships and lucrative Name, Image and Likeness deals.

At the time of writing she has over 13 million combined followers across TikTok and Instagram.

Dunne is currently dating a baseball star herself in pitching phenomenon Skenes, who is in his second season with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
