TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar urges the public to assist flood victims. Moreover, he said that the holy month of Ramadan is the right time to share, as every act of kindness will be rewarded greatly.
"Yes, during Ramadan it is very good to help each other, right? So, a little means a lot to us, and it means a lot to those affected by the flood," Nasaruddin said when met at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
Nasaruddin said the current flood victims were in a desperate situation. The flooding has affected their daily needs, from clothing to shelter, particularly in the Jabodetabek area. Therefore, he emphasized that even a small contribution to help those affected would be valuable. "Because all of them are submerged. Their daily necessities, as well as their clothing, and even some of their homes will be lost," he said.
Floods hit several areas in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, also known as Jabodetabek, earlier this week, on Monday, March 3, 2025. Researchers at the Climate and Atmospheric Research Center of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Erma Yulihastin, had already warned about this.
Erma mentioned that moderate to heavy rainfall had poured almost the entire Jabodetabek area on Monday evening until night, which raised concerns about the potential for flooding in several areas. Moderate to heavy rain continued until early Tuesday morning.
Currently, the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) noted that 85 neighborhoods (RT) are still flooded. The affected areas include West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta.
The most severe flooding was recorded in South Jakarta. "In one Neighborhood Unit of Pengadegan Village, South Jakarta, the water level reached 3.1 meters," said the Head of the Data and Information Center of BPBD Jakarta, Mohamad Yohan, in a written statement on Wednesday, March 4, 2025.
The floodwater came from Bogor, West Java. In addition, the high rainfall since Sunday night, March 2, 2025, until Tuesday night, along with the overflow of the Pesanggrahan River, Krukut River, Ciliwung River, and Angke River, contributed to the flooding.
