TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) together with UN Women, UN Global Compact Network Indonesia (IGCN), International Finance Corporation (IFC), and Indonesia Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (IBCWE) held the 6th annual "Ring the Bell for Gender Equality" (RTBFGE) event in Indonesia. This event, commemorating International Women's Day, raised the theme "How to Maintain Work-Life Integration: Policies that Empower Women."

RTBFGE, a global initiative supported by international organizations, aims to raise awareness and commitment to gender equality in the business world. This year, 117 exchanges worldwide participated in this campaign.

The event highlighted the challenges women face in achieving workplace equality. Data reveals that women's workforce participation in Indonesia lags behind men's. In addition, women also experience wage gaps and limited leadership opportunities.

"The business world is an integral part of efforts to promote gender equality," said Ratna Susianawati, expert staff for legal and human rights affairs to the Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection. She emphasized the importance of synergy and collaboration.

The event also stressed the importance of work-life balance policies. IDX President Commissioner Nurhaida stated that these policies not only empower women but also create a more inclusive and sustainable workspace.

Through World Café discussions and panels, leaders shared best practices on maternity leave, paternity leave, and flexible work arrangements.

"2025 marks 30 years of progress since the Beijing Platform for Action and Platform were agreed upon," said Ulziisuren Jamsran, UN Women Indonesia Representative and Liaison to ASEAN.

She called for concrete action to ensure that all women and girls in Indonesia are free from discrimination and have access to decent work.

The panel discussion featured female leaders, including Betti S. Alisjahbana and Kristy Nelwan, who discussed the challenges and solutions to creating a more inclusive work ecosystem. Wita Krisanti, Executive Director of IBCWE, emphasized that creating a safe and inclusive work environment is a strategic investment for business sustainability.

The Ring the Bell session symbolized commitment to gender equality and the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs). Euan Marshall, IFC Country Manager, stated that creating economic opportunities for women is critical to driving global growth and development.

Josephine Satyono, Executive Director of IGCN, concluded the event by highlighting the importance of inclusive work policies and cultures to support women's career advancement and well-being. This event is expected to be an important moment in encouraging more progressive policies to support gender equality in the world of work.
