2 months ago 45

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Joint Search and Rescue (SAR) Team found one dead body around 12:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time) in sector 3 waters, about 6 nautical miles from the location of the sinking motor ferry KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya ship on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

The evacuation process was carried out using rubber boats owned by the Indonesian Navy's Warship KRI Tongkol 517. The body was then taken to the Pusri dock and then to the Blambangan Regional General Hospital (RSUD) for identification process by the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team of East Java Regional Police.

Preliminary identification results stated that the body was male, about 170 centimeters tall. "He was wearing a blue T-shirt and brown shorts," said Ribut Eko Suyatno, the Deputy of Operations and Preparedness of BASARNAS, in an official statement on Sunday, July 6, 2025, who also served as the SAR Mission Coordinator (SMC) in the operation. As of the release of this news, the victim's identity of the sunk ship has not been announced.

The discovery of the body prompted the Composite SAR Team to plan to expand the search and rescue mission for the victims of the sunken KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya ferry in the Bali Strait on Monday, July 7, 2025.

Commander of the Sea Combat Group II Surabaya First Admiral TNI Endra Hartono during a press conference at Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi, Sunday night, stated that the discovery of the body will be an evaluation. "The finding (of a male body today) will be our evaluation in the process of searching for victims, which will be expanded in surface search later," said Endra, Sunday night, cited from Antara.

The KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya sank on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. The ship was carrying 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 vehicles. According to Basarnas data, 29 people survived. But after reconfirmation with PT. ASDP and the police, the number became 30. A total of 21 victims have been handed over to families in Ketapang and nine in Gilimanuk.

With the discovery of one deceased victim yesterday, the number of fatalities increased to seven. Meanwhile, 28 people are still missing.

The search in the sea is focused on the waters of the Bali Strait, from north to south. Three air Search and Rescue Units (SRUs) are also deployed to sweep the area from the same direction. Meanwhile, land SRU teams monitor the coastline along the Ketapang (East Java) and Gilimanuk (Bali) sides.

On Saturday, July 5, 2025, a composite SAR team from the Ministry of Transportation's Navigation Service had found an object on the sea floor at a depth of 40-60 meters, suspected to be the wreck of KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya. The location of the sunken KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya has shifted about 800 meters from the initial location of the sunken ferry.
