TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky who was visiting Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday evening local time, according to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as quoted by Antara.
On the X social media platform, SPA stated that MBS welcomed Zelensky's arrival at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah with an official reception ceremony.
The two leaders also held numerous formal discussions. Zelensky had arrived in the Saudi coastal city earlier on Monday ahead of U.S.-Ukraine talks.
Zelensky stated on Friday, he is scheduled to meet Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Monday, as quoted by the Ukrainian News Agency based in Kyiv. After that, his team will remain in Saudi Arabia to work with our partners from the U.S.
On Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also arrived in Jeddah and met with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. According to a statement previously released by the U.S. Department of State, Rubio will be in Jeddah from Monday to Wednesday, March 12, 2025, and meet with the Ukrainian delegation "to push for President (Trump's) target to end the Russia-Ukraine war."
The U.S.-Ukraine meeting today comes after a surprising exchange between U.S. President Donald Trump and Zelensky at the White House in late February. This led to the cancellation of bilateral mineral agreements and the suspension of U.S. military aid to Ukraine.
