TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Advisor and the son of Iran's President, Yousef Pezeshkian, on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, denied rumors suggesting that the new Supreme Leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, had been injured.
He inquired about Mojtaba Khamenei's health following reports of the possibility of the new Iranian leader being injured in the attack on February 28, 2026, which killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family, including Mojtaba's wife and child.
Yousef received confirmation that the leader was in good health.
"I heard the news about Mr. Mojtaba being wounded. I contacted friends and asked them about it. Thank God, he is in good health and there are no problems," he said, as quoted by the ISNA news agency as reported by Antara.
On Monday, the Iranian government media reported that Mojtaba Khamenei officially replaced his father, the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as the new Supreme Leader of Iran.
The 56-year-old Khamenei becomes the third Supreme Leader of Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. He is expected to follow in his father's footsteps, maintaining a hardline stance against the United States.
The Supreme Leader of Iran holds the highest authority in the judiciary, legislature, and administration in Iran. He also makes decisions on important matters in the country, including the nuclear program.
During his tenure as Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a fatwa (decree) banning nuclear weapons, as they pose a danger to humanity.
