TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spanish youngster Lamine Yamal has once again made his mark in World Cup history after entering the list of the 10 youngest goalscorers in the tournament's history.

This record was achieved after Yamal scored in Spain's victory over Saudi Arabia in their 2026 World Cup Group H match at Atlanta Stadium, United States.

The 18-year-old Barcelona winger opened the scoring for La Roja in the 11th minute. Yamal swiftly met Mikel Oyarzabal's low cross and finished from close range to put Spain ahead.

Although it was a simple finish, the goal had significant significance in World Cup history. At 18 years and 343 days old, Yamal officially became the seventh-youngest goalscorer in the history of the quadrennial event.

Yamal's record puts him ahead of several modern-day greats, including Lionel Messi, who scored his first World Cup goal at 18 years and 357 days.

The list of youngest World Cup goalscorers is currently led by Brazilian legend Pele, who scored at 17 years and 239 days.

Besides Pele and Messi, several other big names on the list include Manuel Rosas, Gavi, Michael Owen, Nicolae Kovacs, Dmitri Sychev, Julian Green, and Divock Origi.

The goal against Saudi Arabia also emphasized Yamal's important role in the Spanish squad. Previously, the Barcelona player had only started the first match of the 2026 World Cup against Cape Verde on the bench due to recovering from a thigh injury.

However, after being trusted to start again against Saudi Arabia, Yamal immediately made an impact, helping Spain break down the opposition's tight defense from the start.

According to FIFA records, here is a list of the 10 youngest goalscorers in World Cup history:

1. Pele (Brazil) – 17 years 239 days

2. Manuel Rosas (Mexico) – 18 years 93 days

3. Gavi (Spain) – 18 years 110 days

4. Michael Owen (England) – 18 years 190 days

5. Nicolae Kovács (Romania) – 18 years 197 days

6. Dmitri Sychev (Russia) – 18 years 231 days

7. Lamine Yamal (Spain) – 18 years 343 days

8. Lionel Messi (Argentina) – 18 years 357 days

9. Julian Green (United States) – 19 years 25 days

10. Divock Origi (Belgium) – 19 years 65 days
