TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - The long weekend combined with the addition of Vesak Day holiday, which will take place from May 9th to May 12th, 2025. The frequency of trains passing through the railways will increase because there will be additional train journeys.
Road users, especially those who will be crossing railways, should always be vigilant and follow the signs. Vigilance is prioritized to ensure the safety of train travel and all road users.
"We urge the public, especially drivers, to be extra vigilant and cautious around railway tracks and railway crossings, especially during the long weekend of Waisak, which will take place from May 9 to May 12, 2025," said Feni Novida Saragih, the Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop (operation area) 6 Yogyakarta, on Thursday, May 8th, 2025.
Feni added that from Daop 6 Yogyakarta alone, there will be 4 initial train departures, which means there will be 8 round trips. If on normal days, Daop 6 operates 25 train journeys, then during this long weekend period, there will be 29 train journeys per day. In addition, there will also be additional trains not only from Daop 6 but also trains passing through other Daops.
"With this increased operation, the frequency of train trips will be higher compared to normal days. KAI Daop 6 strongly urges the public to refrain from any activities on and around the railway tracks and to be more vigilant at railway crossings for everyone's safety," said Feni.
Feni further added that according to Law No. 23 of 2007 concerning Railways, the safety of train travel is the top priority. The public is obliged to prioritize train travel. The public also plays an active role in maintaining security by avoiding risky activities on the railway line and its surrounding areas, such as playing, selling, or taking photos on the rails.
Drivers of cars, trucks, or motorcycles are also urged to increase vigilance by disciplined compliance with the existing signs. By briefly stopping to look left and right before passing through railways, and prioritizing their safety and that of other road users.
"Together, let us adhere to safety regulations for the smooth operation of trains during this long weekend period and the Waisak commemoration," said Feni.
