TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Floods and landslides in several regencies or cities in Aceh have caused losses, with 89,582 hectares of rice fields affected.

The impact of this loss was conveyed by the Department of Agriculture and Plantation (Distanbun) Aceh. The Head of Distanbun in Aceh, Cut Huzaimah, stated that their department is currently working to rehabilitate severely damaged fields and provide seed assistance to farmers whose land can still be replanted.

Cut Huzaimah stated that this damage data has been conveyed to the Ministry of Agriculture. He mentioned that the Inspector General of the Ministry of Agriculture has received the report and stated that this issue will be a serious concern for the ministry. For the land that can still be planted, the Ministry of Agriculture plans to provide seed assistance.

Regarding the land that can no longer be planted due to being covered in mud, the Aceh Provincial Government will implement a rehabilitation program for the disaster-affected rice fields.

"For the land that can no longer be planted, we are currently striving for the rehabilitation of disaster-affected rice fields. There is a program there, which includes the rice fields affected by the previous tsunami," said Cut Huzaimah in an official statement on the Aceh Provincial Government's website on December 22, 2025.

Cut Huzaimah mentioned that the rehabilitation process is expected to take quite a long time. The time depends on the extent of the disaster's impact.

"If we look at this, it already resembles starting a new paddy field because everything is flat. This rehabilitation and reconstruction will take six months," said Cut Huzaimah.

As of December 23, 2025, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) had recorded 1,106 deaths due to the Sumatra disaster in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. This figure is based on the total casualties from 52 regencies/cities in the three provinces. Meanwhile, a total of 175 people were declared missing.

Aceh had the highest number of deaths, with 477 fatalities from 18 affected districts/cities. North Sumatra followed with 369 deaths in 18 regencies/cities. West Sumatra had 260 deaths in 16 affected regencies/cities. A total of 7,000 people were injured.

The number of damaged houses in the three provinces reached 158,088. Aceh Province experienced the highest number of damaged houses, with 115,678 houses destroyed.

As of today, the damaged public facilities are 1,600, with 219 health facilities, 967 education facilities, 434 places of worship, 290 buildings or offices, and 145 bridges.
