TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono receives visit from the Thai Ambassador to Indonesia, Prapan Disyatat, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Jakarta on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. The two figures discussed steps to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand. The meeting was also part of the series of events marking the 75-year diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

During the meeting, Sugiono welcomed both countries' commitment to revive the bilateral ministerial-level mechanism, including exploring the plan for high-ranking Indonesian officials to visit Thailand shortly.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, it is expected that the plan for the reactivation of the bilateral mechanism of the two countries will further strengthen the cooperation in various fields, including political-security, economic-investment, people-to-people contacts, and development cooperation.

Sugiono also expressed appreciation for Thailand's support and cooperation efforts to repatriate Indonesian citizens who have become victims of human trafficking, especially online scams or cyber fraud, in the border areas of Thailand and Myanmar.

Based on records from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Thailand have been established since March 7, 1950. Thailand is now one of Indonesia's strategic partners in the trade and investment sector.

In 2024, the total bilateral trade reached US$17 billion. Meanwhile, Thailand's investment value in Indonesia during the same period reached US$389.7 million.
