TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heavy and prolonged rainfall triggered flooding across ten villages in five subdistricts of Pohuwato Regency, Gorontalo Province, on Saturday, March 8, 2025, affecting thousands of residents. Rescue teams are working to evacuate those impacted.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that the affected villages include Bulangita in Marisa Subdistrict; Hulawa in Buntulia; Tirto Asri, Panca Karsa 1, and Malango in Taluditi; Bukit Tingki and Popayato in Popayato; and Suka Makmur, Dulomo, and Manawa in Patilanggio.

“Preliminary assessments by the Pohuwato Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) indicate that the flooding has affected 752 households, or 2,546 residents, and damaged 719 homes,” said BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari in a written statement on Tuesday, March 11.

Evacuation efforts are ongoing, with a joint task force assisting residents. The Pohuwato BPBD is coordinating with local authorities, conducting on-site assessments, and setting up public kitchens and emergency shelters for displaced families.

As of Monday, March 10, BPBD Pohuwato and BPBD Gorontalo Province reported that floodwaters had receded in most areas, except for Dulomo Village in Patilanggio, which remains inundated.

In response, the Pohuwato Regency Government has declared a State of Emergency for Flood Disasters, effective from March 9 to March 22, 2025, under Regent’s Decree No. 116/29/III/2025.

BNPB urged residents to follow official instructions and verify any information before sharing it to prevent misinformation.
