Three Police Officers Killed during Cockfighting Raid in Lampung, TNI to Sanction Members if Involved

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of Information for the Sriwijaya II Military Command Colonel Inf Eko Syah Putra Siregar said that they are currently investigating the alleged involvement of Indonesian Military (TNI) members in the killing of three police officers during a raid at a cockfighting venue. The incident occurred in Kampung Karang Mani, Negara Batin District, Way Kanan Regency, Lampung, on Monday afternoon, March 17, 2025.

"If there is involvement of individuals (from the Indonesian Military), we will definitely impose sanctions. Regarding the ongoing issue, we ask for your patience to wait for confirmation based on further investigation and inquiry," said Eko when confirmed by Tempo on Monday night, March 17, 2025.

Referring to the information obtained by Tempo, the raid occurred around 4:50 PM led by Ipda Engga. The operation was carried out by the Way Kanan District Police assisted by members of the Samapta Unit along with the Kapolsek (District Police Chief) and members of the Negara Batin Police Sector.

The cockfighting venue is suspected to belong to a TNI member with the rank of Corporal with the initials B and First Lieutenant Assistant with the initials L. Three police officers died with head injuries during the raid on the cockfighting venue. They are the Negara Batin Police Chief Iptu Lusiyanto, Binmas Unit Bripka Petrus Apriyanto from the Negara Batin Police Resort, and Bripda M. Ghalib Surya Ganta from the Way Kanan Police Resort Criminal Investigation Unit.

The Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Indonesian National Police Division of Public Relations Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko said that the three deceased police officers were evacuated to the Bhayangkara Police Hospital of Lampung for an autopsy. "The victims have been evacuated for an autopsy and further investigation," said Truno when confirmed by Tempo.

Truno mentioned that the three police officers were killed while carrying out their duties as public servants. According to him, the Lampung Regional Police and the Way Kanan District Police have provided support and assistance regarding the incident. "The Indonesian National Police mourns the loss of its best personnel in carrying out their duties," said the one-star general.
