1. Apple Gets Local Content Certificates in Indonesia, Still Needs More Permits
Indonesia has issued local content certificates for 20 Apple products, including the iPhone 16, an industry ministry spokesperson said on Friday, although the company still needs permits from other ministries before it can sell the phones.
The issuing of the certificates follows last month's announcement of more than $300 million investments by Apple in Indonesia, including on plants making components for its products and a research and development centre.
2. Russia Launches Major Ukraine Missile Attack After U.S. Cuts Off Military Aid
Russian forces damaged Ukrainian energy and gas infrastructure overnight in their first major missile attack since the U.S. paused intelligence sharing with Ukraine, piling pressure on Kyiv as President Donald Trump seeks a swift end to the war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, seeking to shore up Western support for his country after Trump's diplomatic pivot towards Moscow, called for a truce covering air and sea, though not ground troops - an idea first mooted by France.
3. South Korea Says Number Injured in Fighter Jet Misfire Rises to 29
The number of people injured after South Korean fighter jets accidentally dropped bombs on a civilian area on Thursday increased to 15 civilians and 14 soldiers, the country's defense ministry said.
The latest tally included cases of ear damage due to the blasts, as well as people suffering from migraines and anxiety, Defense Ministry spokesperson Jeon Ha-kyu told reporters on Friday.
