1. Expert Slams Prabowo's Meeting with Supreme Court Judges, Sees It as Intervention
Constitutional law expert from Andalas University, Feri Amsari, stated that President Prabowo Subianto has compromised the independence of the judiciary by recently meeting with Supreme Court judges and providing them with directives.
"Gathering and providing various views from the president to the judicial power is a form of intervention," Feri said in a voice message sent to Tempo on Friday, February 21, 2025.
Feri said that such forms of intervention have also occurred during the old and new order regimes. He assessed that Prabowo's intervention with the Supreme Court judges would greatly damage the state system in Indonesia.
2. 'Dark Indonesia' Protesters Distribute 'Wanted' Posters of Prabowo and Gibran
The atmosphere of the 'Dark Indonesia' (Indonesia Gelap) mass action on Friday afternoon, February 21, 2025, heated up albeit rain had briefly poured over the Horse Statue area in Central Jakarta from 15:49 to 16:22 WIB (Western Indonesia Time).
The demonstration was also briefly marred by riots as some demonstrators threw firecrackers, causing explosions that prompted those nearby to scatter.
Throughout the rally, the mass action continued to sing the song 'Bayar Bayar Bayar' by the Sukatani band, which had been withdrawn from music streaming platforms due to alleged intimidation by the police.
