1. Indonesia Weighs Turning State-Owned Enterprises Ministry into Agency

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said there is a possibility to transform the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) into an agency, as part of the ongoing revision of the SOEs Law.

"It is possible for the government to demote the status of the SOEs Ministry, designating it as an agency," said Prasetyo at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

This Gerindra Party politician explained that the SOEs Ministry currently acts as a regulator, as the newly formed sovereign wealth fund Danantara became more involved in the operational functions of SOEs.

2. IEU-CEPA: EU Exporters Eyeing to Save 600 Million Euros as Deal Inked with Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government and the European Union have reached an agreement on the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) in Bali on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefovi said the EU will save over 600 million euros on import duties for goods shipped to Indonesia, as the agreement eliminates over 98 percent of tariffs, removes almost all trade barriers, and opens new pathways for investment.

Maroš said the IEU-CEPA was developed with full respect for the respective priorities of each country, ensuring a balanced outcome. He exemplified that the 15 percent import duty on cars in Indonesia would be phased out over five years, thus opening the door for EU automotive exports.

3. ITB Researchers Lead Indonesia in 2025 World's Top 2% Scientists List

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Stanford University in the United States recently released the World's Top 2% Scientists List 2025, and the highest number of Indonesian scientists on the list are from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), totaling 16 individuals.

According to ITB, they are I Gede Wenten, Ferry Iskandar, Tommy Firman, and Brian Yuliarto, who is now the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. Also included are Grandprix Thomryes Marth Kadja, Agung Wahyu Setiawan, Megawati Zunita, Antonius Indarto, Dwi Hantoko, Suwarno, Rudi Dungani, and Heni Rachmawati. The list further includes Pramudita Satria, Pekik Argo Dahono, Achmad Munir, and Taufiq Hidayat.
