The following is the list of the top 3 news on Tempo English today:
1. Singaporean Tourists to Benefit from Johor Bahru-Kuala Lumpur Electric Train Service
Taking a train from Johor Bahru in southern Malaysia to the capital city of Kuala Lumpur will only take 3.5 hours starting from the end of this year. This duration cuts approximately half of the current travel time by diesel trains or buses without traffic jams. This is made possible after Malaysia operates the Electric Train Service (ETS) starting on December 12, 2025.
Ibrahim ibni Iskandar, the King of Malaysia and Sultan of Johor, will inaugurate this service in Johor Bahru on December 11, a day before it is opened to the public.
The inauguration of this electric train route will ease the journey for tourists from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. Tourists can cross the border in Johor Bahru before continuing the train journey to Kuala Lumpur. Previously, the Johor Bahru-Kuala Lumpur train route was available, but it was served by diesel trains with a travel time of about 7.5-8 hours.
2. PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Responds to Grab Merger Progress: "Open to Discussions"
PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO) has responded to developments regarding a potential business merger with Grab Indonesia, a plan the government recently confirmed is still under discussion.
GOTO Company Director and Secretary, R.A. Koesoemohadiani, stated that the company supports the government’s priorities and is open to various discussions.
"We are open to various discussions that could support the long-term interests of the company's stakeholders," Koesoemohadiani said in an official information disclosure on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, cited on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
3. Prabowo Departs for Sumatra to Inspect Disaster-Hit Areas
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is heading for disaster-stricken Sumatra on Monday morning, December 1, 2025.
Prabowo departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, to Raja Sisingamangaraja XII Airport, North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province, at around 06:00 AM Jakarta time. The visit is intended to ensure that disaster management efforts are running optimally after floods and landslides swept through parts of the island.
According to the official statement from the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo is scheduled to observe the situation on the ground, including in areas suffering damage and disruptions to basic services. He will also ensure that emergency measures are implemented in accordance with rapid, precise, and coordinated disaster response standards.
