TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Organization (TPNPB-OPM) has declared its readiness to war against the Indonesian military. The spokesperson for TPNPB-OPM, Sebby Sambom, stated that they are ready to engage in war if the government does not promptly recognize the sovereignty of Papua.
"We are ready to engage in war until doomsday if the Indonesian state does not recognize the sovereignty of the Papuan people and convey it to the Papuan officials to cease their activities as agents of murder for the people of Papua," said Sebby in his written statement on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
He mentioned that the war declaration was a result of the shooting of foreigners in Kuala Kencana, Timika, Papua Province. Sebby stated that the shooting incident was carried out by Indonesian military personnel stationed in the area.
"The shooting of Pilot Glenn in Alama-Mimika District and other foreigners as well as Papuan people who were killed by the Indonesian Government Military was all done for money," he said.
According to him, besides money, the main mission of the Indonesian military personnel in conducting the shootings was to increase war equipment. Sebby stated that the incident was also to secure foreign and national companies in the Papua region.
"The main mission is to increase war equipment and military troop deployments to secure foreign and national companies owned by the state," said Sebby.
He mentioned that TPNPB-OPM would continue to engage in war until the Indonesian government is prepared to engage in international negotiations. Sebby stated that the negotiations are aimed at resolving the armed conflict in Papua.
"Therefore, as long as the war continues, it is conveyed to all Indonesian immigrants to leave the armed conflict areas in Papua," he said.
Sebby mentioned that they have been aware of the movements of Indonesian military intelligence entering their territory. He urged Indonesian citizens who come to the area to leave Papua.
"TPNPB in 36 Kodaps throughout Papua are aware of the movements of Indonesian military intelligence agents entering the armed conflict areas. Hence, Indonesian immigrant residents are asked to leave the war zones," said Sebby.
