TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning on Sunday, stating that he had entered a crucial "decision-making phase" regarding the ongoing conflict with Iran.
He warned that "major developments" would soon occur if Tehran failed to alter its stance and behavior.
"The question is whether and when I will destroy that entire country? They had better watch their step," Trump told the US television network Fox News while outlining his approach to the conflict, as cited by Antara.
The US President explained that his current options include completely destroying the country, allowing it to "wither" economically, or negotiating a peace deal.
He added that "very big things will happen in the near future."
When asked about the UN General Assembly session beginning on Monday, September 21, 2026, Trump signaled a willingness to pursue a diplomatic path.
He stated that the "possibility remains open" for a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Addressing broader tensions in the Middle East, Trump emphasized that Washington maintains intensive communication with the Houthi group in Yemen.
This move follows a recent ballistic missile attack launched by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia.
According to Trump, the group has agreed not to attack or engage in confrontation with US military forces.
