TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Turkish Airlines achieved a new milestone in air travel at the end of 2024, not for flight duration or distance, but for the number of countries served within the past year.
The Istanbul-based airline officially holds the Guinness World Record title for serving the most countries by an airline. Over the past 12 months, the airline operated routes to 120 different countries.
“As the only airline to hold this distinction for over a decade, we proudly showcase the strength of our flight network and reinforce our mission to connect people, cultures, and destinations around the globe,” said Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Eki as reported by Times Aerospace.
The airline’s most recent addition to its network is Santiago, Chile, marking its 26th destination in the Americas.
“These flights will not only contribute to trade and tourism but also enhance cultural interaction between two nations,” he said.
131 Destination Countries Served
Including routes that are temporarily suspended, Turkish Airlines’ network encompasses more than 131 countries worldwide. Within the United States, the airline serves 10 different cities, namely Atlanta, Boston, Washington D.C., Houston, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, and Detroit.
Talal Omar, VP – MENA & Türkiye at Guinness World Records, hailed the achievement as a milestone for the airline. “The airline's steadfast commitment to connecting the world exemplifies vision and excellence in aviation,” he affirmed.
Turkish Airlines is a member of the Star Alliance, which also includes airlines such as United Airlines, Air Canada, and Lufthansa. The airline operates a fleet of 474 passenger and cargo aircraft.
The airline is currently upgrading its business class cabins with features such as adjustable sliding doors for enhanced privacy, 23-inch seat widths, and 22-inch television screens. They also plan to introduce complimentary, high-speed Wi-Fi for all passengers starting in 2025.
