TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two French Air Force fighter jets crashed into each other during an acrobatic training session on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. As reported by France 24, the incident occurred near Saint-Dizier Air Base in eastern France, with no casualties recorded.
The accident occurred around 3:35 p.m. local time during a training involving six Alpha Jets from the Patrouille de France acrobatics team. According to the French Air and Space Force, both pilots and one passenger successfully ejected. The conscious passenger, who suffered multiple trauma injuries, is currently being treated by military medical personnel.
A report from Daily Mail UK stated that one of the jets crashed into a concrete company's silo, sparking a fire. Meanwhile, the other aircraft is suspected to have crashed into a canal.
This incident recalls the collision of two Rafale fighter jets in the skies of eastern France in August 2024. The pilots of those jets died in the rare accident involving the advanced fighter planes. This time is different as there were no casualties among the pilots or civilians near the accident site.
"Emergency services are being mobilised, and coordination is being ensured by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of the Armed Forces," French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu stated in a post on X, as quoted on Friday, March 28, 2025.
A recording shows the group of jets maneuvering and emitting smoke before two aircraft collided. A witness working at a car dealership near the incident site claimed to have seen debris falling from the sky.
"The pilot landed 50 meters from the site and was immediately carried on a stretcher by firefighters," said the witness to Puissance Tlvision.
The Air Force authorities are still searching for aircraft debris using air, ground, and radio-electric resources. Helicopters are combing the area of the incident.
Saint-Dizier Mayor Quentin Brire, who visited the site, urged residents not to panic. He praised the professionalism of the pilots who managed to guide the aircraft to fall without endangering civilian inhabitants.
