Two-Meter Flood from Ciliwung River Overflow Submerges Kebon Pala, East Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Floods still submerged residential areas in Jalan Kebon Pala II, Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, East Jakarta on Tuesday morning, March 4, 2025. The flood caused by the overflow of the Ciliwung River reached a height of one to two meters.

The flood in the settlement located on the banks of the Ciliwung River has been ongoing since early Monday morning, March 3, 2025. The flood has not subsided, causing disruption to the activities of the residents.

It can be seen that since 08:00 AM local time, residents have been shuttling back and forth to rescue their clothes and important documents from their homes to higher ground. Some had to use rubber boats or life jackets to reach their homes.

"This is it, if you want to go anywhere, you have to be wet, use a rubber boat, and it gets deeper further down. It also hampers those who want to go to work, as their motorcycles were parked on higher ground," said Head of RT 12/RW 04, Rukimah (53 years old) when met at the location, East Jakarta, on Tuesday.

While some evacuated, several residents were still holding out in their homes. Officials continued to evacuate residents who wanted to move to shelters or return to their homes to retrieve their belongings.

Teams from the local police and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) were on standby with rubber boats to evacuate residents.

Meanwhile, several flood victims sought shelter at SDN 01 Kampung Melayu, with most of them being women, children, and the elderly.

The heavy rainfall in DKI Jakarta and its surrounding areas on Sunday, March 2, 2025, led to a rise in the water level at Katulampa Dam in Bogor, West Java. By 8:20 PM local time, the dam had reached Alert Level 3.

Shortly after, at 8:40 PM, the status was upgraded to Alert Level 2, and by around 9:30 PM WIB, Katulampa Dam was elevated to Alert Level 1, indicating a dangerous condition.

Subsequently, the Depok Monitoring Post was at Alert Level 3, Waspada, at 9:40 PM local time, Alert Level 2 at 12:00 AM, and Alert Level 1 or Danger at 12:30 AM local time.

Then, at the Angke Hulu Monitoring Post, it went to Alert Level 3 at 11:00 PM local time and caused several floods in the DKI Jakarta area.

Until now, seven residential areas in East Jakarta are still inundated by floods, three in the Bicara Cina Sub-district with water levels at 90-100 cm, and four in the Kampung Melayu Sub-district with water levels reaching 95 cm.
