TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heri Hermansyah, the Rector of University of Indonesia (UI), emphasized UI's commitment not only as an educational and research center, but also as a driving force for industrial progress at the Executive Board Meeting of the Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB) on September 23, 2025, in Incheon, South Korea.

Heri explained that the AFOB meeting was held in conjunction with the 17th Asian Congress of Biotechnology. Thirteen countries attended the meeting, including South Korea, Japan, China, India, and Indonesia.

"This forum is an important space for experts to discuss the latest developments in biotechnology, as well as to formulate strategic directions for technological advancement in the region," said Heri in a written statement on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

During the meeting, Heri emphasized the importance of international collaboration to ensure that biotechnology can provide real benefits for health, humanity, and industrial sustainability.

"UI is not only present to strengthen Indonesia's position in the world, but also to ensure that knowledge can provide answers to various global challenges," he said. "Through collaboration, we want to bring innovations that directly impact people's lives."

Heri revealed that they also signed several strategic memoranda of understanding with Cell Growth Factor Biotechnology (CGBIo) on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. CGBio is a leading South Korean biotechnology company that produces more than 200 health products, including skin fillers, wound dressings, and bone fillers.

Heri said that CGBIo has established a research collaboration with UI's lecturers and students and has opened an office in the IDE Building of UI's Faculty of Engineering as a sign of its seriousness. "The company is also preparing to build a factory in Cikarang, West Java, scheduled to commence in 2026," Heri added.

Heri viewed this collaboration as tangible evidence that research and innovation conducted on campus can be directly linked to the industry. "With the support of CGBIo, UI aims to become a center for the development of health technology that benefits the wider community," said Heri.

In addition, the youngest professor from the Faculty of Engineering at UI also signed cooperation agreements with the Korean Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH), led by Dr. Lee Sang Mok, and with the University of Science and Technology (UST) Korea represented by its president, Dr. Kang Dae Im on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

"These two collaborations open up new opportunities for UI to expand its research networks, strengthen academic collaborations, and introduce technology transfers that are beneficial for Indonesia," Heri explained.

He added that UI's involvement in this prestigious forum also demonstrates that the university is not only an education and research center, but also a driving force for industrial progress. Through academic diplomacy and technological innovation, UI serves as a bridge between knowledge and the needs of society.

"Synergy with international partners will produce outstanding human resources, quality research, and innovation ready to compete on the global stage. UI is committed to bridging research with community needs, as that is the true role of a university," said Heri.
