US Journalists Vow to Form a Third Party

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta American journalist Tucker Carlson has expressed his determination to establish a third political party in the U.S. that could serve as an alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties.

"That’s not a democracy. That’s a one-party state posing as a democracy, and it needs to be broken, and there’s going to be a third party, and I’m going to do everything I can to bring that about," Carlson said in an interview with the Columbia Journalism Review on Wednesday, July 1, as quoted by ANTARA.

However, Carlson emphasized that he was not willing to be nominated as the third-party candidate.

Last April, U.S. President Donald Trump criticized several U.S. journalists, including Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, Megyn Kelly, and Alex Jones, for their opposition to Trump's decision to launch a military operation against Iran.

The U.S. midterm elections are scheduled for November 3, 2026. Some analysts believe the Republican Party is in danger of losing control of the U.S. House of Representatives to the Democratic Party.

Experts attribute the potential loss of the majority in Congress to the Trump administration's declining electability due to the military campaign against Iran and the surge in energy prices.

In December 2025, U.S. media reported that billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk had abandoned his plans to found his own party after being convinced by Vice President JD Vance.

Vance and his inner circle worry that the new party, called the "American Party," will weaken the Republican Party's position in the 2026 elections.

According to a report by The Washington Post, Vance asked Musk to cancel the plan. Musk responded by switching his support to the Republican Party in the midterm elections.
