TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka attended MIKTA cooperation forum and held bilateral meetings with several partner countries at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday, November 22, 2025, local time. MIKTA is a group of five middle-power countries consisting of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia.
Minister of Economy Coordination Airlangga Hartarto explained that during the meeting, the Indonesian government appreciated South Korea's chairmanship in 2025. "On this occasion, Indonesia conveys congratulations and thanks for South Korea's leadership in MIKTA this year, which will be followed by Australia next year," Airlangga quoted Antara as saying on November 23, 2025.
Airlangga stated that Gibran, representing President Prabowo Subianto at the G20 Summit, also held pull-aside bilateral meetings. These meetings were conducted with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, the Prime Minister of Vietnam, the President of Angola who also serves as the Chair of the African Union, and the President of Finland.
Furthermore, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) were also included in these bilateral meetings. During the bilateral meetings, Airlangga stated that Ethiopia seeks Indonesia's support in the agricultural sector, especially in palm oil.
Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Natsir mentioned that out of the six bilateral meetings conducted by Indonesia amidst the G20 Summit, the meetings generally focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the economic sector. Natsir highlighted the Republic of Angola's interest in boosting cooperation with Indonesia in the field of agriculture, particularly in plantation commodities such as coffee and cocoa. The G20 Summit in South Africa is considered a historic moment as it is the first time the high-level meeting has been held in the continent of Africa. The G20 Summit, themed 'Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability,' marks the end of the Global-South country leadership relay in the G20, which began with Indonesia's leadership in 2022, followed by India, Brazil, and South Africa.
