TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Immigration Office in Batam is promoting a seven-day Visa on Arrival (VOA) for foreign tourists planning short visits to Batam and the Riau Islands, aiming to boost tourism by offering a low-cost visa option with a simple application process.

The seven-day VOA is intended for travelers visiting for tourism, family visits, and other limited short-term activities. The visa is valid for a single entry and cannot be extended, according to Aris, Head of Public Relations at the Batam Immigration Office.

“This Visa on Arrival is valid for seven days, single entry, and cannot be extended,” Aris said on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Visa Fee and Entry Points

The seven-day VOA costs Rp250,000, or approximately US$16. The visa is only available at designated immigration checkpoints in Batam and the Riau Islands, including Nongsa Terminal Bahari, Marina Teluk Senimba, Batam Center, HarbourBay, Sekupang, Bengkong Gold Coast, Sri Bintan Pura, Bandar Bentan Telani Lagoi, and Tanjung Balai Karimun.

Holders of the seven-day VOA must enter and exit Indonesia through these official checkpoints and are required to leave the country before the visa expires.

Under Indonesia’s Immigration Law No. 6 of 2011 and Government Regulation No. 45 of 2024, foreign nationals who overstay their permitted period by up to 60 days are subject to a fine of Rp1 million (about US$64) per day.

“Because this visa cannot be extended, we urge tourists to carefully monitor the validity period to avoid violating immigration regulations,” Aris said.

Immigration authorities expect the seven-day VOA to support increased tourist arrivals in Batam while providing flexibility for travelers making short trips to Indonesia.

How to Apply

The application process is completed upon arrival at designated immigration inspection points at ports in the Riau Islands.

Travelers must first make the visa payment at the designated bank counter within the airport or port immigration area. Applicants are required to present a passport valid for at least six months.

After payment, travelers will receive a visa voucher as proof of payment. The voucher must then be presented at the Visa on Arrival counter, where immigration officers will issue a visa sticker and an electronic entry stamp in the passport.
