TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's public figure couple Atalia Praratya and Ridwan Kamil are reportedly separating. Recently, news circulated that Atalia has filed for divorce, with the first hearing scheduled for December 17, 2025. As is known, this couple, once considered couple goals, has been married for decades.
Marriages that last for decades are a testament to the dynamic nature of child development, which varies at each stage. There are challenges and joys in accompanying children as they transition to adulthood.
According to psychologist Anisa Cahya Ningrum, the joy of caring for a toddler, both adorable and exhausting, often becomes an unforgettable memory. The tension of navigating the turmoil of adolescence is also a valuable experience for parents.
"So, when you have to separate at a mature age, you'll feel a heavy psychological impact. There are accumulated memories that you don't want to ignore, let alone erase," Anisa told Tempo on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
The psychological impacts that can arise include:
- Feelings of disappointment, toward yourself, your partner, and the circumstances surrounding them. It could be that their hearts didn't want this separation, but circumstances demanded it. They'd been going on for so long, but they had to stop and let go of so many memories.
- Sometimes feelings of regret also arise. Even though they believe this decision was best for them, there are aspects of their behavior they may regret. "If only I hadn't done this..., maybe this separation wouldn't have happened."
- If they don't receive sufficient social support, a psychological impact that can arise is loneliness. This is especially true if the children are grown and independent, and this feeling becomes even stronger.
- Another psychological impact of divorce is related to social interaction. Some people experience negative stigma that can be disturbing. Some are forced to withdraw from their environment because they don't want to hear negative comments from others.
- Some people also experience conditions that are so depressed that they experience problems and even mental disorders. These conditions may include depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
According to Anisa, social support is paramount for women going through divorce. It's important to ensure that they aren't alone in this difficult situation. Children are a source of hope for mothers. At the very least, they can provide comfort so mothers don't feel lonely and isolated.
"Close friends, relatives, or anyone else can also support mothers in their lives. It's also important to optimize communities related to work or hobbies to fill their days, so they don't feel empty and still feel meaningful and useful," she said.
